Christmas Gift Ideas From Safety Man's Perspective

Ever had a hard time coming up with ideas for loved ones gifts? How about putting safety into the mix? What better way is there to show you love them then with their safety on your mind. So here are some ideas for you:
1. A decent fire extinguisher for the home or car.
2. A good ladder
3. Donate a jacket to a shelter for a needy child
4. A first aid kit
5. Schedule a first aid course that you can attend with your teenager.
6. New surprise tires for your spouse's car that need them.
7. Hand warmers.
8. A good ice scraper for a car window makes a great stocking stuffer.
9. Get your husband's chainsaw sharpened.
10. Have the chimney cleaned.

Ok, now you have the idea. Put safety first. I hope you have a great holiday whatever it is you celebrate. From me I wish you a Merry Christmas.

It's Holiday Season!

With the holidays approaching, we are all going to be faced with the dilema of food.  What to eat, how much to eat.  Should I make sugar free cookies or a tofu turkey (please don't!)  If you need help go to the Holiday Survival Guide found at the following link under Thursday, November 18.                                Blog 30 Days of Diabetes and Beyond
I don't know how to link a PDF off of another site, so you just have to click there.  I have found it useful to me, maybe you will too.  Have a great Thanksgiving.  Be safe, stay healthy, and don't forget to thank God for you blessings.

uSafe Pictures Needed!

I am requesting pictures of unsafe acts and conditions that you run across daily so we can break them down and learn from them.  If you snap a shot send it via text to my phone (I am not putting that number on line), or my email.  Most of you have my email, if not ask me when you see me.  Or you can click here if you have something to send me pics to Craig.  Remember, don't include any company logos or faces of people if you can avoid it.  I will give you credit for the pic if you want, if you don't want it, let me know.  Also, tell me what could have been to rectify the problem.  Send me something good.  Be safe!

Introducing uSafe!

uSafe is a new feature that I have for each of you to send me pictures of unsafe acts and/or conditions and what you would do to correct them. Get you camera's and cell phones out and send me what you find. Kind of like the picture of the lost load in Lubbock. He obviously didn't use proper tie down techniques. Please leave company names out of the photo and/or illegal acts. I will preview and decide what gets put on the blog. Have fun, but don't put yourself in harms way by taking the picture. If your driving, pull over. And down climb any fences or sneak around to get them. I think you can find plenty just out and about. Take care and be safe.

Busy Few Weeks

Some of you might not know it yet, (although I have been telling everyone about it because we are so excited about it), but my son Kyle and I are going on a Mission Trip to Germany with Let's Start Talking. We are leaving on June 5th and will be gone for a tad over two weeks. We have been training and preparing and frankly we can't wait. The work consists of reading English Study guides with people wanting to learn English. The study guides are basically chapters from the book or Luke. We are not there to teach them doctrine or our personal beliefs, rather we are there to help them with English. We are to let the Bible do the teaching. Some of these people we will read with have truly never heard the story of Jesus. That is something that we take for granted here in the U.S. This is a great opportunity for my son and I, and if you regularly pray, we would like to ask for you to include us in those prayers. It is only for two weeks, but that means I won't be around for a bit.

We have created a blog that we would love for you to follow while we are there.

Thanks for you patience and support.

A New Year, A New Beginning

Well, it is hard for me to believe it is 2010. I have been on the planet for 40 years now and I now have teenagers. Man life changes quickly. So does government. We have a new OSHA Assistant Secretary of Labor named David Michaels. He has a long resume, an epidemiologist, a history in research and regulatory policy, and program administration, he was, I believe, an interim Chair in the Evironmental and Occupational Health Department at George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. He worked for President Clinton as the Department of Energy's Assistant Secretary for Environment, Safety and Health.
According to an email I recieved from BLR Safety Daily Advisor, Mr. Michaels stated in an article written in New York Committee of Occupational Safety and Health's newletter, that OSHA should focus on 1) a workplace injury and illness prevention program rule, 2) an increase in workplace health and safety capacity (I am not sure what the refers to, honestly), 3) the development of a new electronic recordkeeping and reporting system (that's a little scarey to me), and 4) a campaign to change the way the nation thinks about workplace safety.
He also said the Obama Administration's objective should not be better/smarter enforcement, but should create a bold campaign to change the workplace culture of safety. Which refers to the last point of the four parts mentioned. OSHA has been hinting for a while that the new focus is going to be enforcement and not compliance. We shall see. Everyone should be ready for a visit. It's almost time to put out your Summary logs. If you need help just let me know. There is a link on the right side of this page that will take you right ot the OSHA site's recordkeeping page and to the documents that you will need. I will be putting reminders out on the blog and the facebook page, as well as sending out hard copy reminders to my regular customers.
If you haven't put safety first in your company, 2010 is the right year to do it! Remember my new slogan "Salus Primoris" Safety First!
Have a great 2010.
